Site Goals & Strategies

The Essential Team Building Skills is organized to provide as many learner supports as possible throughout the web site. The first layer of detail is the Pre-Registration and Learner Support Information. This information provides all course details and information related to the course. The pre-registration pages will include:

Policies. This page will be dedicated to the course rules around grading policies, withdrawl, payment policies, student protocol and responsibilities.

Technical Details. The technical details page will be dedicated to the course requirements for technology. Details on this page will include long-distance charges & services, phone and Internet access, computer software and hardware requirements.

Bio. A page with the instructor biography and photo will be provided as an introductory page to the instructor.

Course Details. The course details page will include the schedule, course details, frequently asked questions and learning objectives. This section will also include information on getting help or getting questions resolved, and learner contract.

Registration & Payment. The registration and payment page will include all instructions and links to forms to pay and register on-line. The registration and payment form will provide the first link to the instructor for email and contact information, which will be sent to the learner after payment has been received.

Email & Survey Learner. (1) Course Details via email including access and confirmation of registration. (2) A learner survey will be requested after confirmation of registration. This survey is to provide additional instructional and learner information to the instructor. The survey will include details on Internet / computer technologies, scheduling challenges for the teleclass schedule and kernels or bios on the learner to use for the ice breaking session.

Course Technology Flow

The course is going to be taught using a variety of technologies. The web site for Essential Skills for Team Building will provide many of the learner supports, content, downloadable Adobe Acrobat files and learner project/instructions. All learner supports, course details and access to surveys will be available from the instructional web site on http://entrepreneurstrategies.com. See the technology flow for how technologies will be utilized to manage the course. All pages will contain the current copyright notice for Entrepreneur Strategies.

The course will also use tele-classes via the phone bridge. This technology will be used to build a working relationship within the class and to provide hands-on support, coaching and modeling for the course. The teleclass is scheduled for the first class and the final class. Students will receive telebride usage and access instructions on how to use the telebridge, the phone number and access information after registering for the course.

The course is going to use Nicenet for hosting the course information. Learners will be able to access the course by entering the ID they receive to the virtual classroom by email after confirmation of registration and payment. A course named Essential Tools for Team Building has already been established using Nicenet. In the confirmation email autoresponder the student will receive a detailed email with all of the confirmation details on how to access the course on Nicenet. The students will be directed to Nicenet's home page http://216.218.240.180/ to join the class.

Learner Focus Site Design Strategies:

We anticipate our students will be primarily on dial-up and have at best a 28.8 modem connection to the Internet. For this reason the pages for the site design will be basic containing mostly html. The graphics will need to be optimized for user ease and downloading. This courseware will not be using Flash or applets to make the access for users easier. In the next version we may consider adding more dynamic content for users with higher connection speeds. In our course administration we will periodically be conducting surveys of the users to determine the ease and navigation of the site and technologies. The user feedback will support us in upgrades and increasing user ease of the product. At this time our goal is to keep the site very basic in design and use the discussion and telecoaching to create a substantial value to the learners. We expect our users will have the ability to use the courseware via phone and Internet. We also expect our users are experienced with email and have an existing email account. Email will be a strategy for providing information and support to learners during the registration/enrollment and during the course.

The learner survey, initiated in the beginning of the course will reveal to the instructor critical details about the learners. The survey will be an instrument to accommodate learning styles and students learning preferences. The course also utilizes required discussion using Nicenet, teleconfererncing, objects/visuals and interactive learning projects to accommodate learning styles.

The site navigation will be available on each page, with text links at the bottom of the page. The site will use techniques of labeling objects making the site as accessible to all users as possible. The general layout and site design will be similar to how these pages are constructed, with differentiation for the course content navigation and flow of the content and course materials.

Site Design and Message Concept:

The theme of Essential Tools for Team Building will be used throughout the site. Graphics and artwork that are conducive to the message of building effective teams will be utilized sparingly throughout the courseware. The use of basic message design to communicate core principles and ideas will used to add to the visual effectiveness of the web site. The logo on this site may be a basic starting point for illustrating this learning concept and message. The color theme of gold/black/green will be the colors chosen to design all graphics and messages for the website.

Module Course Flow & Learner Supports

The main page for the team building course will include learner links, current announcements, time-sensitive announcements/calendar-schedule, trivia, course momentos. Included in the links are the learner supports for technology and the course. The links to the pre-course registration will be available to the learner as an easy reference. The links to for how to access the course, log-in and participate using Nicenet and Telebridge courses are available from the main page for the course. See the Course Flow

The course is divided into four primary sections or modules. These four topics provide a natural way to divide the learning into smaller chunks of learning. The topics are communication, leadership, attitude and responsibility and goals & vision.

Each section will have an introductory page with links to the sub-sections of the module. The top level will have current module information, including instructions on what is required for this particular section. The content will include a link to additional resources. Each module will have a separate page for urls that are specific to the content for that module. The project – linked to the learning objectives for the module will be discussed and if needed an additional link to the project page with all of the learning content will be created. Some modules will not require this extra step, but some modules will be a bit more involved and so splitting up the learner content will help the learner to break down the information into a smaller chunk. The modules will include:

Course Module Name
Instructions
Course Reading & Materials
Additional Resources
Projects
Link to Nicenet & key

The course needs to have a short learner survey. The learner survey will contain fields to answer short bio information for the instructor and students. The survey will also have three to four questions relating to the on-line experience prior to taking the course and the technology the learner is using to take the class. The survey is for the instructional purposes of the instructor to understand the learners.

Each module needs a short survey of 4-5 questions relating to the module and the learners experience with the content, interactivity and learning environment, including suggestions on improving the module/experience.

A final survey will be conducted after the final teleclass. This will be provided by email to the learner as a way to close out the class and obtain the final input from the learners on the learning experience, content and improvements for learning.

The course uses anchored instruction through a case study. This case study will be created as a mini-website providing references and resources needed to complete the weekly assignments. At the completion the case study the teams will have a complete product. This product will demonstrate fulfillment of learning objectives, will help to create continuity between all of the learning modules, provide a project based learning tool for the teams to work on collaboratively and provide the common tool of learning throughout the entire instructional product. This product will help to coordinate the learning around one central theme and provide a focused project for the learners to continue to work on throughout the course.

Since this course was most recently offered in a face-to-face learning environment, one of the product goals is to continuously survey the learners to discover how the course materials and presentation can be improved. The consistent offering of the course surveys throughout the instruction satisfies the need to conduct formative evaluation for this product. Based on the survey results we can determine instructional changes and make some course updates to the instruction before the next offering of the course.

A site map of the course will be provided as an index to the web pages.
